1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die - No. 1

Film #1 - Le  Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip to the Moon) (1902)

This is one of the first ever films, and running for around 15 minutes, in complete silence, this film would've completely changed the world. This French film was one of the first films to be shown world wide. It was filmed in black and white, and the each individual frame was coloured, bringing colour to the film. It is based off a novel by Jules Verne called "De La Terre à La Lune" (From The Earth To The Moon).
I can't rate this film myself, and I wont be rating movies until I get to coloured movies, and there are a lot of moves to go till then. Flicking forward, I'm not sure a lot of these silent films are going to be enjoyable, but we shall see.
I did like this film though, because knowing it is one of the first, gives it a little meaning, and shows we've come a long way, and director Georges Méliès shows us the beginning, check it out.

P.S - This is going to be my subject of a lot of blogs, 1000 more to go.

Jackson On - The Oscars 2013

So we're coming up to the oscars, a very exciting time for all movie lovers, and all involved in cinema. So this year, as it is every year, the question is who will win the Oscar for best film?

Now, I have seen Les Mis, and loved it, being a musical kid. And though it was good, I think Zero Dark Thirty will win, and I hope it does. Lets not forget that Zero Dark Thirty is made by the same brilliant minds behind The Hurt Locker, an astounding film, which did win the Oscar. Zero Dark Thirty, as I am writing this, is not out in Australia yet, but if it is as good as the Hurt Locker, it takes the cake, and from the many trailers I've seen, it looks like this is the case.
Best actor should hopefully go to Hugh Jackman for Les Mis, he was awesome in this. It's hard to pick a best actress and best director at this point for me, as all the nominees look good. Original screenplay should go to Zero Dark Thirty. Visual effects in my opinion is down to The Hobbit, or maybe The Avengers, and as much as I love the Avengers, I think the Hobbit had better visual effects. Cinematography is hard to choose, but I hope Skyfall takes that. Costume should go to Les Mis. Editing is another hard one to choose, though Zero Dark Thirty is nominated for that one. Make-Up and Hair should go to The Hobbit or Les Mis, as I think it'll go to Les Mis. Best Music, now this is a disappointment, as I believe The Hobbit should've been nominated for this, as well as the Dark Knight Rises, as both have epic music, but as neither of them were nominated, I hope it goes to Skyfall, same goes for the original song, Adele's Skyfall was a great song. Best Production Design to Hobbit or Les Mis. Sound editing and sound mixing are hard to choose, but Les Mis was great music and sound, so maybe the sound mixing to Les Mis.

I may have been a little bias, some of my favorite movies have been nominated. I love any James Bond film, especially Skyfall which was fantastic. I'm a superhero fanatic, seriously crazy about them. And I love sci-fi and fantasy, the Hobbit being one of my favorite books, ad was also one of my favorite films, one of many of course. I mean, come on, who doesn't love Martin Freeman?!

Laura On Moods

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, as you can imagine holidays have taken over both mine and Jackson's lives but here we go.

I've noticed lately that I always relax to different music. When I'm on the beach, I listen to my latest downloads which are obviously the hits being played on the radio or at parties at the moment. But if I'm lying in bed at night, that is the last thing I would even dream of listening to. I have a playlist which includes my personal favourites such as Missy Higgins, Nora Jones, even some Ray Charles or Etta James.

Depending on what mood I'm in, I listen to different things, but the interesting part is that I could be in the happiest mood and want to listen to the most mellow of songs; for example: Georgia On My Mind by Ray Charles. Or I could be in the worst mood just sad as ever and want to listen to I'm So Excited by the Pointer Sisters... But that's the thing! Music somehow or another has all control over my body and my mind.

I'd love to do research and be able to see how deep music really goes because imagine if it could help people with depression without making them dwell too much on their own lives.

There is a saying: When we're happy, we listen to the music. But when we're sad, we understand the lyrics.
